St Francis Xavier Old Collegians Football Club in an Australian Rules Football club formed in 2007 to compete in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), a family orientated league that does not pay players and does not permit sale of alcohol during games. The VAFA also maintains its status as the largest amateur league in Australia. In season 2016 the club will be celebrating its 10 year.
Playing at the Beaconsfield Campus of St Francis Xavier College, the club competes in both Reserves and Seniors competitions. The club started strongly in 2007 before moving into its first grand final and divisional promotion in 2008 while also making finals in 2009. In 2011 the club won its inaugural premiership and promotion to Division 3. In 2013 the club again made finals for the 4th time in its short history. In 2015 the club won another premiership, not bad for a club only 9 years old.
In the 2015 season the club restructured in its aim for long term success. The main aim for the club is to provide a safe and happy place for young men to not only play football, but to help them grow into respectful men. This rang true and in the 2016 season the X-Men again reached the Grand Final. Although this wasn’t their year to hold up the trophy the players have proven that their determination and discipline will be hard to beat in 2017.
The club is looking to consolidate its position within the local community and to work together with the school and local business to create a successful partnership for many years to come. We are always seeking new participants on or off the field as well as sponsorship partners. Both ex-students and non-St Francis affiliated patrons are welcome at the club.
In 2016 the Xmen have been led by President Chris Seuren and Coach Luke Fulton-Tindal.
Other notable club moments:
St Francis Xavier Old Collegians Cricket Club began operating in 2009 with 2 Senior teams as a way for the community and previous/current students to get together socially and play cricket. In its inaugural season, Old Collegians CC began with two sides in the West Gippsland Cricket Association.
The Old Collegians CC plays out of the Beaconsfield campus, with training to be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Beaconsfield campus throughout the season.
