Year 9 Curriculum

At Year 9 students have now experienced most of the learning areas and are able to begin to make informed decisions about their courses. This provides them with an opportunity to focus on those areas that they enjoy and to begin to consider future pathways. Any subject choices at Year 9 do not prevent students from accessing subjects of their choice at the senior campus outside of Advanced Mathematics.

Core subjects

All students are required to study: –  Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science and Japanese for the full year.

Electives

All students are required to study two electives from each of the following Learning Areas: – Humanities (one of which must be a History subject), Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Technology.

Accelerated learning

Within the College’s differentiated curriculum, students are given the opportunity to accelerate their learning within each subject. Two subjects are offered at Year 9 as accelerated subjects; Mathematics and Japanese. Students must have teacher support to undertake these subjects as the content of these course is more challenging and moves at a quicker pace than the core classes.

Students would be looking to undertake accelerated Japanese or Advanced Mathematics if this suited their future pathway and they were capable of coping with the additional workload.
